Running a work from home business has many advantages, but there are some disadvantages to it as well. This is particularly true if you have no idea what you are doing. You can avoid many pitfalls though, if you’ve got good information at your fingertips. Use these tips for a thriving home business enterprise.

If you need the Internet for your enterprise, take advantage of tax deductions. You can write off the Internet costs, but if you use it as a home connection as well, you cannot claim more than 50% the cost on you taxes. Read the rules on the IRS website.

Wear apparel that is appropriate for your status as a business owner. You might feel the need to work in pajamas in your home office. Dress professionally instead. Wearing real clothes affects not only your appearance, but your motivation to get down to business.

It is important to distinguish between time spent working and off hours, and maintain a bright line between the two. Determine when business hours will end. Try not to work or accept calls after hours. Be sure to schedule enough time for your loved ones and friends and for your own interests.

The information on your site should always be an accurate reflection of your actual inventory. Customer get very irritated when they find out a product they ordered is not going to be delivered promptly. Especially if they weren’t warned about it first. Suggest your customers purchase a similar product by being honest when items are not currently available.

Include several ways your visitors can get in touch.

Create a business mailing list for sending direct mail. Don’t send so many emails that it seems like you are spamming. Use mailing lists to let your customers know about new specials and products. Some people also use mailing lists to send coupons, relevant information and articles to their customers regularly. Include an opt-in area that makes it easy for folks to join the list.

Be sure to write a business plan. Even for small companies, it’s still important to map out your business goals, all of the necessary resources and the path you will follow to accomplish your business objectives. Having a plan in place will help you stay on top as your business grows.
